You're listening to the Daddy Daughter Bookworm sponsored by CareFresh Training Group, where we talk about children's books. Hello, bookworms. My name is Lucy.
Speaker 2:And I'm Alex, and today we're going to be reviewing another book, aren't we?
Speaker 1:Yes, we are.
Speaker 2:What's the name of it?
Speaker 1:My name is Stilton, Geronimo Stilton. What we're?
Speaker 2:going to learn is about a mouse that runs a printing press.
Speaker 1:Okay, so why don't you tell us who wrote the book? On the cover it says the book is written by g stilton, which is the main character. We found out from the internet research that g that g stilton, is the author's pet name really, I don't think we've ever reviewed a book that's had a pen name.
Speaker 2:What does that mean?
Speaker 1:The author doesn't put their own name on the book. They choose a different name. This author's real name is Elisabetta Maria Dami. She is an Italian children's book author, so this book has been translated from Italian.
Speaker 2:Really that's pretty amazing. And who's the illustrator?
Speaker 1:The illustrator is Larry Keyes and Matt Wolfe, and also the publisher is Scholastic out of New York City.
Speaker 2:They do a lot of the books that we read, don't they?
Speaker 1:Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2:All right, so what's the genre?
Speaker 1:This is a chapter book geared towards older elementary kids. It has very engaging illustrations and interesting characters and eye-catching fonts. Important words in the story are in different colors and shapes and the fonts. For example, when you're writing the word paw prints, there are a bunch of letters inside little paw prints.
Speaker 2:Awesome when you look at the cover. Of the name is Stilton, Geronimo Stilton. What'd you notice?
Speaker 1:I noticed that Geronimo had slipped on a banana peel and Pinky is peeking in the room from a door.
Speaker 2:Who's Pinky?
Speaker 1:She's Geronimo's assistant Assistant.
Speaker 2:Okay. Well we'll get into it. We'll get into it later. Yeah, we will. So is there a whole series of Geronimo.
Speaker 1:Oh, there certainly is. I counted over 100 Geronimo books in the library.
Speaker 2:That's a lot of books.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Do you want to read them all? Yeah, okay.
Speaker 1:So Dad Geronimo is a mouse who works for a newspaper called the Rodents Gazette, and the whole series is filled with mouse references. And do you know what goes with that?
Speaker 2:What goes with that? Erga burger cheese. Erga burger cheese. I forgot about erga burger cheese.
Speaker 1:And if you guys have been listening to the Mouse Called Mika episode, then you will know where that's from.
Speaker 2:Erga burger cheese.
Speaker 1:Erga burger cheese.
Speaker 2:So we also have a character named Pinky Pick. Pinky and Geronimo have very different character traits. Why don't you tell us a little bit about them?
Speaker 1:Geronimo likes classical music, good books, plain clothes, plain pizza and although he likes adventure, he really wants his life to be peaceful and calm. Pinky likes rock music. She doesn't like things plain. She likes funky things. For example, she wears enormous pink high-top sneakers with see-through platforms, Sneakers with fish swimming around. She likes really bright colors and has a cat fur covered diary. She likes excitement and lots of change.
Speaker 2:Well, that's awesome. So Geronimo and Pinky, although they're opposites, have one goal in common. Why don't you tell me what they are trying to accomplish?
Speaker 1:They're trying to get an interview with a famous rock star. I get a feeling that this mouse is a version of someone famous, like in the baseball book we read. Let me show you his picture, then tell me his name.
Speaker 2:Well, I'm looking at it and His name is Fuzzy Fuzzborn. His name is Fuzzy Fuzzborn. His name is Fuzzy Fuzzborn. He kind of looks a little like Ozzy Osbourne. I don't know, but he, even though Ozzy yeah, kind of looks like Ozzy Osbourne, I could tell with the bat shirt. So Pinky has some good ideas about making money with the Rodin Gazette. What was one of those that impressed you?
Speaker 1:She wanted to start a magazine called Fur Kids Only, and she came up with ideas for merch, like a G-scented diary.
Speaker 2:Oh my gosh, do you have any personal connection with this book, and what does the book remind you of, if anything?
Speaker 1:I don't really have any personal connection, but there was a character that reminds me of a real life person. Captain Nelson from the book has so many awards and medals on his uniform. This reminds me of Clara Burton. I read her biography recently and she has so many awards and medals on his uniform. This reminds me of Clara Barton. I read her biography recently and she has so many awards and medals.
Speaker 2:That's pretty cool. And you did something else with Clara Barton, didn't you? Yep, what'd you do?
Speaker 1:I was her for the wax museum.
Speaker 2:Exactly so how would you recommend this book to anyone?
Speaker 1:I would. I would recommend this book for third through fifth graders, as well as anyone who likes graphic novels.
Speaker 2:So it was a fun book, yep, and you think you might want to read some of the other adventures. Yes, okay, and she's been doing this for a long time. I think she's in her 70s, or something like that, so she's been writing hundreds of books, hasn't she?
Speaker 1:Yes.
Speaker 2:I think that's pretty amazing. So, lucy, why don't you tell the listeners how they can get the book if they want to buy it?
Speaker 1:They can go to their local children's bookstore or they can go to our show notes, where we have a link. Also, you can help our podcast by giving it a five-star review.
Speaker 2:Also. You can maybe go to the library and maybe get it for free. You can also do that, so why don't you tell the listeners how they can get in touch with us?
Speaker 1:To submit your theories and feedback. You can email us at daddydaughterbookworms at gmailcom.

Speaker 2:So that's our show. But before we end our show, we had some pretty interesting news this last week, and do you remember what it is?
Speaker 1:So one of our other podcast episodes, act got an award.
Speaker 2:It was a communicator award for arts and Culture, and so we are an award-winning podcast. What do you have to say about that, lucy?
Speaker 1:That's amazing and I'm very excited about it.
Speaker 2:Well, you should be, because you worked really hard. All I can say is I want to thank everybody for listening. I want to thank all the people that voted on us.
Speaker 1:My name is Alex and I'm Lucy, and see you soon. Bookworms.
